The Jamaica Masters Athletics Club started in July of 2005 by Nigel Geohagen when he came to Canada to compete in the World Championships in Edmonton. Upon his arrival in Toronto he realized that there was no masters athletics club serving the West Indian community in Toronto. At that time, and as a marathon runner, it was very hard to find masters athletes to train together until two years later when Nigel linked up with Paul Robinson and Richard Reid; two long time friends from Jamaica.
These three athletes competed as Jamaica Masters within the Ontario Masters Association and the Canadian Masters Association. The fellows also competed as a trio from 2007 until 2011. In 2012 the club grew to seven athletes now becoming more diverse with athletes from Trinidad , Canada, and St Vincent. In the same year the Jamaica Masters took a team of 9 athletes to the NACAC Championships in St John, New Brunswick where they had great success bringing in their greatest medal haul in an international competition with a total of 15 medals. Upon their return to Toronto they set out to increase the club's membership and widen their activities with Nigel Geohagen as the Head Coach and Club Manager.
In 2013 the JMAC Club of Ontario made its first bid for the Doug Smith Trophy, (Ontario Championships). Armed with only 15 men and women they came in third at this event and so in 2014 they geared up again and decided to go for the Indoor Championship win. Yet again they came up short turning in a very close second place behind the mighty UTTC Track Club. With the club now growing to over 25 members strong JMAC made one more push for the Ontario Championships hosted in Brampton at the Terry Fox Stadium on a very rainy weekend in July. Finally the JMAC Club defeated the mighty UTTC and won the Doug Smith Trophy for the very first time scoring a record 448 points. The club has since scored the most points of any team at the Indoor National Championships while sporting their new name; The JamCan International Athletics Club.
